Time for pictures...

The past few weekends we have had a blast.  Every week we have about 12 to 14 girls come out.  Everyone is having fun and running at their own pace.  I can see that so many of you are getting stronger and faster... after only a few weeks!  That's amazing!  I'm so excited to see where everyone will be at in a few months.  I think we've got a really good thing going on here.  If you are aren't part of this and you'd like to be come out with us!  Email me at werunforfun@yahoo.com if you have any questions.

B*tche$ Run Crazy!

On Saturday we had a lot of new ladies come out, which was awesome! During the team huddle we asked who was going to be running their first 10K when we do Miracle Miles. There were a lot of hands that went up, which was so inspiring! We haven't discussed it with the team entirely but some of us "Team Captains" or "Coaches", whatever you wanna call us, have talked about whether we would run as a team from start to finish or allow everyone to run at their own pace. Having given it more thought, we feel that because there are so many of you who are running your first race it's important for you all to have an opportunity to set your own Personal Record (PR). Being that it's your first one, it's going to be your own personal bar that you're setting...and being that Running Grrrl is all about personal best we want you to feel the freedom to give it your all, at whatever pace feels comfortable for you. We are a team that encourages and nurtures personal goals and in this process some are going for time and some are going for sheer bragging rights, "that's right sucka, I ran a 10K!" Either attitude is important to us because it's important to you.  And as you achieve these goals we know that you're going to use that new found sense of strength and empowerment to help raise up those sisters around you.
Having said all this, I'm sure there's still a few of you who are a little nervous about signing up because that familiar voice of doubt is setting in...6 miles is a long way...I just started running...what if I can't finish?! I'll say this to you, YOU CAN DO IT! Why? Because you're not alone.  We are a team and it's like the Marines, "No Woman Left Behind". These runs will be like each practice, one of us will always be in the back...wether we're jogging, walking, or dragging you across the finish line:) Since I love carrying a whistle and yelling in your ear, "pick it up, woman!" (just kidding), I will be the one in the back and the last Running Grrrl to cross the finish line. And  to all you little leggers who are kickin' booty in the front, I expect you all to circle around a little and yell us in! (I'm hoping for one of those obnoxious horns that those drunk, painted faced fans always have in the stands of football games.)
Lastly, know that your race counts to us and to the team. We are all inspired by everyone else's stories, whether it be you're a mom with five kids, a young woman finding her niche, or a woman trying to run through the heartache of her past...give us a chance to cheer you on and be a part of your Running Grrrl story.  Get signed up, get sweaty, and get strong!!

Miracle Miles Fundraiser!

Lealah sent this out to everyone on our email list... some of you aren't on our email list so I thought I'd post it on our blog...

Hello Ladies!
I wanna thank all of you Running Grrrls who were able to sign up for the Miracle Miles for Kids this year! One of our main goals for the Running Grrrl team is to be able use our gift of running to bless other people, the fastest and easiest is through charity/fundraising events such as this one. The Miracle Miles for Kids is not just going to mark our first event together, it will hopefully mark the beginning of our work in the community. When you sign up for the run itself the money goes towards Family Care Network and the families they serve, however, Miracle Miles is also a yearly fundraiser that FCNI hosts to raise money for operating expenses for the following year.
As many of you know, this is not a good time to live in the state of California. The state itself is in financial turmoil, which a lot of you may have experienced on a personal level, class sizes growing, after school programs being cut, etc. Well for a company like Family Care Network, these fiscal changes can truly mean the difference between life and death for some of the kids they serve. Sitting on the board for FCNI, I have personal knowledge of how this recession has and could continue to affect this company. It can be extremely discouraging knowing that not everyone in government views the health and safety of ALL children as not only important but a basic human right. But with companies like Family Care there is a light at the end of this dark tunnel! Family Care is a committed team of people dedicated to bettering the lives of the children and families they serve. Having worked for them as well I saw first hand how many families were positively affected by the work that this great company does. All this to say, here is our opportunity to poor into a company that not only needs it but deserves it!!
After you sign up for Miracle Miles for Kids, FCNI will be sending you a pledge packet. This packet will have a pledge sheet where you will have the opportunity to collect pledges of support for FCNI. I really want to encourage you ladies to call on those people who love you and support this positive step you're taking in your lives, by joining the running club and ask them to also support you in your race to help the children and families being served by FCNI. It's time to put our money where our mouths are, ladies!! According to our last count there were 12 girls who signed up for Miracle Miles...if we all raised even $100 dollars each, that means we're giving $1200! Please, give it your all, like you do when you're sweatin' your booty off on that last mile! I thank you, FCNI thanks you, and more importantly, the precious children of San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties thank you!!
Sincerely,
Lealah Broyles
Her Broyle(s) Highness

++If you would like to know more about Family Care Network and the families they serve or how you or someone you know can donate to FCNI, please go to fcni.org

Testify!!

Yesterday was the first run for Running Grrrl. And as Erin said, it was beautiful and more than we could of ever expected. Beyond even being surprised by the amount of women that showed up, I found myself more in awe of their commitment and determination to succeed at something so new. These women I can tell are gonna be fierce! The best part of being on a team is that we're trying our best, not only for ourselves but for the betterment of the team.  We all have different reasons for running, which is what makes this team unique. Some of us it's really just about getting stronger physically, others, it's the serious difference between loving or hating ourselves. What excites me is that we're all gonna have a safe place to explore these things, pushing ourselves and each other to become better wives, sisters, girlfriends, moms. Sooo, hopefully we'll make a believer outta all you ladies and you'll decide to come out and get sweaty with us! (keep your dirty comments to yourself:)

First run was amazing!!!

Yesterday morning we met up at the Bluff Trail out at Montana De Oro, for our first Running Grrrl run!!!  It was a blast!  Everyone did awesome.  It was absolutely beautiful out.  Perfectly clear and a little chilly.  We had a total of thirteen girls show up!  Pretty good for our first run!  Everyone was super excited and ready.  We did a totally of 4.2 miles.  (We told them it would only be 3 miles... ooops.)  Everyone did so good despite the fact that we added some extra mileage on there.  Good job girls!!!  Seriously that was the best!  We couldn't have asked for a better first run!  It was perfect!  There was a lot of encouragement and love out there.  A lot of cheering each other on.  It was so much fun!

We are sooo proud of all of you and we can't wait to watch you grow in this process.  If we keep this up we'll be running a full marathon together in no time!!!

B*tche$ be CRAZY!!!
